SNOBama?

Things were going pretty good for Barack Obama. Right after the major speech made by him about race in America – praised by almost everybody who isn’t scared about his surge on the pools.

He had just proved that it’s possible to have a non hypocritical debate about key social issues and run for president at the same time.

Only until the next page.

Obama's remarks at a San Francisco fundraiser Sunday, attempting to explain the resentment in small-town in Pennsylvania are now everywhere:

You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations. - BARACK OBAMA

First of all, this is a pretty big list to explain with job loss.

But more important is: if most voters in the General Election understand what Obama meant by this words is it possible to see a major shift in the same old political hypocrisies?

Or the only thing that should be learnt by this episode is: the truth hurts so you should never say anything about it.

So when Obama says we can have hope in the future, he is naive. When he attempts to explain why a lot of people don't trust Washington, he is naive. You guys need to get out of the Beltway every once in a while. Did you see the standing ovation Obama got in Muncie last night as he fleshed out his remarks on the frustration of small town voters. Obama has a real message that is not an any way elitist. Obama is right, it really is rich that the husband a beer heiress attempts to paint him with the elitist brush. Or the woman that grossed $109 million in the past seven years says that she sees no bitterness in the voters of Pennsylvania. I expect better insight from the Politico team. You guys just seem to be channeling the talking heads at Fox.

I agree with all the assertions made here. It takes a while to discern these statements that Obama made. At first glance, they seem somewhat benign but a certain feeling sticks with you wrong about them. I thought about it for a long time and I just get the feeling Barack just doesn't "get" people who think differently than he does. He took it upon himself to speak for small town people and that was his first mistake. Yes things are tough out there but most people have their heads down and are working hard to make things better. For someone to look at you and say gosh you all look so bitter and angry. You all probably just hang on to your religion and your guns because that all you have left. It just sounds so terrible. It is one thing to empathize, and quite another to declare that someone is angry and bitter and go down a laundry list of reasons why their lives are so bad. Now that takes audacity.

You make some really good points; however, I think it is absolutely absurd the way the media have jumped on Obama's remarks and twisted them to sound condescending to the people in PA, IN, etc. To anyone who has just average comprehension skills, Obama's comments are accurate reflections of what many poor and middle-class Americans feel about their plight. Obama did not say that such people are, of themselves, bitter people. Rather, he said that they are bitter about certain situations in their lives inflicted upon them by wealthy, powerful corporations and their own federal government. Are not families whose bread winner has lost a job to outsourced work butter about the lost income and health benefits? Are not families of young men and women who return from Iraq in caskets or in wheel chairs or covered with burns or severely maimed bitter about the rush to war? Are not families without health benefits and forced to see loved ones go without proper medical care bitter about rising costs of insurance and medicine? Barack Obama represents the sole opportunity for our nation to come together, to join as one people regardless of race or religion or income. The Clinton represent the same corporate blood-sucking evil that has driven our proud nation into a devastating chasm. Obama's remarks, true and of themselves, rather innocent, have provided the professional lying politicians a chance to deflect attention from the incredible blunders of Bill and Hillary Clinton. My hope is that most normal Amercians see the remarks as intended and see the Clintons for the obtuse, deceitful shams they are.

Okay, why does this story require this many headlines here? That's pretty sad, especially when there are so many things going on that are news worthy. Barack needs to ask Hillary a question: If people, small town America and anywhere else, aren't 'bitter', angry, and do feel insignificant in the eyes of their government, then what is she 'fighting' for? She considers herself a fighter and she'll fight for us in Washington because she understands our feelings, but Barack can't express the sentiments of people that he meets everyday? That is such a joke! If people don't feel this way, the way Barack describes, then what is she 'fighting' for? Ask her please....

Are you kidding me? Hillary tells lies over and over again but this is what makes headlines. This is freaking crazy. So the guy is telling the truth, people are fed up with Washington, then Clinton totally makes comments that take it out of context. This is a holding onto a vine with a weak root structure before as you fall off the cliff. Shame on the press for giving this any credence.

SNOBama made these comments to a group of rich elite Democrats. If he were interested in the truth, he would have given his speech to a group of blue collar Democrats in the heartland. Faith does NOT come from anger. The 2nd Ammendment does NOT come from bitterness. Workers are not xenophobic or universally protectionist, we want a fair trade system.Obama: Not ready for the general election.

This is the worst they have on Obama? If you actually read his comment IN CONTEXT it makes a lot of sense!!!!

I think in Obama’s word that something idealistic but is wrong think about naive temperament. That’s all right the affirmation: is the time to realize that he made in opposite traditional and he’s propose this. Is more about the racism and xenophobia, is the result of the several times to poor political issues… I think in Brazil, about the temperament with black people, and "nodestines" in Southeast. These points are more talks here. They’re seen like responsible of delay for most people in these areas, so the racism isn’t contest. Don’t forget that Pennsylvania is more conservative in to discuss some themes. But is crazy to think that your manifestation wants to defend or excuse. Is only perception of reality and this is the first step to learn and to combat these points.
