The irony of the First Amendment...

Some people could say they wonder if it would happen during Sadam's regime. But the big question is: how will the freeded Iraq institutions treat this citizen?

The shoes attack seen through the perspective of the Arabian Al Jazeera:

It even became an internet game.

And of course the Xmas present for comediants all around the world:

I wish I could buy that Iraqi reporter dinner. He is officially my hero for the rest of 2008. Too bad GWB is so good at ducking (all that practice during the Vietnam draft I guess paid off).

What a way to end the tour. Classic!!!

Good! Now he now knows the world disapproves of his policies and is showing it to his face. Hide from that Mr. Bush.

LOL. Looks like Bush and his neocon idelogues aint faring any better than Saddam Hussein did. I will venture to say Iraqis hate Bush as much as they hated Saddam, why? Both men used their country for their own personal gain and partisan political goals, they both brought only misery, division and and death to that part of the world. Nice to know George Bush is being "greeted" just like most of us said he would, no not as a "Liberator", as the shameless war criminal he is.

Safe to say that Bush isn't welcome or safe in Iraq.

The only thing about this that makes me sad is that no one from the American press corpse threw anything at him when he started pushing this war. And that he ducked.

There is freedom of expression for you. Good for Muntadar al-Zeidi! I'm sure there are many around the world whose only disappointment was he missed the U.S. President. The message of contempt is clear though. I'm still chuckling. Rock on, Mr. al-Zeidi! I hope Mr. al-Zeidi is OK and security forces were not heavy-handed with him.

My hero! Make no mistake every Arab i know would have loved to BE the pair of shoes thrown at Bush! Better luck next time. It'll be interesting to see how the "democratic" governments of Iraq and the USA will deal with this journalist who expressed and opinion.

Great tries, he'd obviously been practicing his shoe throwing skills as they flew straight and true... shame Bush ducked! However in the back of my mind I wonder if he had done this to Saddam would he still be alive? Freedom of speech at it's ironic finest.

Though it is an act of insult and uncultured behaviour, Bush who is repsonsible of propagating world terrorism and being the leading cause of mascre of millions of civilians (especially Muslims) derves this at his last days and should lament on this for his rest of his life for the crimes he has unfloded against humanity in the world. It is not just an act of insult but an expression of the suffering of the innocent people in that country.

You may hate Bush, you may not, you are entitled to your own opinion and to speak it....in this country. Much work has to be done in Iraq to secure liberty for the Iraqi people...but NO ONE can deny this....that al-Zeidi would died a slow and painful death had he done this to Saddam Hussein or any of his visiting dignitaries. I wonder if any news agencies will follow up to make sure this guy isn't dismembered or thrown from a building...or aren't you worried about this anymore in the new IRAQ?

Bush deserves it..!! Kudos to that brave Muslim Journalist for this HISTORIC SHOE THROWING FEAT. This incident will always be remembered when the history of tyranny will be written. This is a lesson for those tyrant leaders of the worlds.

I guess the gentlemen forgot how Sad H tortured and killed his own people. how the troops rescued half dead tortured political prisoners consisting of men, women and children locked up in the dark in there own excrement in underground prison pits. How Sad H. gased and killed Kurdish men woman and children without cause. I suggest you all view the french documentary Uncle Sadamm. If I were Bush I would pull all of my troops out and let these folks kill each other.

Insulting Dogs by calling Bush one!! I am furious about the fact that the shoe thrower called Bush a dog. A dog is a noble beast that has served man bravely over a period of thousands of years. To call a lying mass murdering war criminal like Bush a dog is insulting to man's best friend, the dog. To us long haired and bearded northern barbarians the dog is revered, the lord Odin has two wolf hounds Freke and Gere To associate Bush the coward who dodged combat in Vietnam a dog is an insult to dogs.

The emerald zone was penetrated. The man shouted "this is a goodbye kiss from the Iraqi people, dog," before hurling a shoe at Mr Bush which narrowly missed him. Showing the soles of shoes to someone is a sign of contempt in Arab culture. Muntadar al-Zaidi was quickly wrestled to the ground and hauled away. With his second shoe, which the president also managed to dodge, Mr Zaidi said: "This is for the widows and orphans and all those killed in Iraq."

Freedom of expression, eh? The only man who dared to actually express himself in front of Bush and his minders is now apparently being "questioned", probably the same way they used to "examine" witches down at the village pond. Let's hope this is a sign of the rage Bush will encounter wherever he goes, until the day someone actually throws a citizen's arrest at him. And release that reporter, if you're even serious about appearing to respect freedom of expression.

That is fantastic!!!!!!!!!! I wish I have a new born baby I will name it Al-Zedi. An Arab should please let me know what al-zedi means in Arabic. The man is definitely a genuine Arab. Bush and his allies anywhere in the world, whether in the West or elsewhere, that terror begets terror. The cowards parading themselves as civilised and free should realise that the world is now a different place altogether.

This journalist should be thanking President Bush for liberating Iraq and thus allowing him to protest his visit. Previously this journalist would have been detained and probably beheaded. So thank you President Bush for liberating Iraq.

Truly wonderful way to bring out an opinion, and best of all, nobody got hurt.

Bush's end will be like this. Because he killed thousands of innocent people. He prevent there right to live. We can hope we can see many things like this in his future life

Zeidi is not a hero only in Arab world but all over the world. I salute him for his courage. This most violent human right abuser will not no peace even in his grave. Let him rememer Sharon (mr Buldozer of Israel) his action agaist Arafat and the people of Palestine and where he is today.

bush continues to show his arrogance and lack of empathy for the suffering he has caused to so many -by making a joke of this incident -rather than acknowledging the murder and pain he has caused. he takes no responsibility for his actions!!!

Little late: Where was this shoe throwing fool when Saddam was in charge?

Anonymous said...

This incident shows the World that protecting this president from negetive news or questions from the press and public is why bush only gives speeches in front of troops that are ordered to cheer for him. and home press is screened for question it may ask.

I don't agree that this shoe-throwing incident "marred" Bush's last visit to Iraq. The incident culminated his last visit appropriately.
